I have Dell Inspiron and keeps receiving the Configuration Wizard everytime I open any office files and application (.doc, .xls., Outlook, etc.), then displays this error in Event Viewer.

Event ID: 1001 - Detection of product '{91120000-0014-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}', feature 'WORDFiles' failed during request for component '{0638C49D-BB8B-4CD1-B191-051E8F325736}'

Event ID: 1004 - Detection of product '{91120000-0014-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}', feature 'ProductFiles', component '{97F81AF1-0E47-DC99-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}' failed.  The resource '' does not exist.

  • I uninstalled MS Office Professional 2007, then reinstall it again using my CD. But I got the same error.
  • I downloaded the MS Office Professional 2007 - Free Trial from http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/product.aspx?sku=3203819&culture=en-US&banner=default
  • I downloaded Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and installed it.
  • After downloading Office 2007 Trial version, it automatically start-up the installation process, but it says if I want to "Remove" or "Repair" Office 2007. I selected "Remove" from the option.
  • I ran Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to mke sure that there is no more Office component installed, and it shows Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007, I selected and remove it.
  • I ran Office 2007 Trial version again to install it (The downloaded version usually saved in your Desktop/Downloads/ using the Microsoft Download Manager by default).
  • After completing the installation, I open a word file and I didn't see any configuration wizard which is a good sign, but it asked me to activate Office.
  • I tried to open Excel, Outlook to verify if I will be receiving the configuration wizard, and no configuration pops-up.
  • I then, activate Office by placing my original serial-number.
  • I restarted Office, and no configuration wizard still.
  • I restarted the computer to make sure, and open Word, Excel, Outlook and finally no configuration wizard pops-up.

Some are saying that installing Vista from scratch, then installing Office 2007 will resolve the issue. But I didn't do that.

I even tried to change the permission settings in registry editor for .pip but I guess that is a different issue. But my issue was the resource location from the Event ID 1004 is emplty. If you are having an issue with .pip, it should say in the resource '' .

Hope it will help others to fix their issue. It may work or may not work, but its worth giving a try.
